Rooted in an ancient Japanese tradition and refined by decades of hands-on growing experience, the Yakisugi Series represents a fundamentally different approach to the raised garden bed. Each piece is individually fire-charred using the Shou Sugi Ban method, wire-brushed to reveal the natural grain of the wood, and sealed with pure tung oil, a food-safe, zero-chemical finish that protects without compromise.
No treated lumber. No chemical preservatives. No leaching into your soil. Just engineered wood, fire, and oil; the same combination that has preserved structures in Japan for centuries.
Every Yakisugi Series bed is built to order in Hamilton, Ontario, and is available for pickup, delivery and assembly, or full professional installation within Southern Ontario.
The Daichi 大地
The Daichi is designed for the serious grower. Its U-shaped footprint creates a natural working courtyard, accessible from three sides, ideal for intensive planting, and generous enough to grow a meaningful harvest. Corner and mid-side stakes are engineered directly into the design, extending below grade to anchor the bed against shifting and bowing over time. This is not a bed you replace in five years. It is a permanent feature of your garden.

The Niwa 庭
The Niwa brings the full Yakisugi craft to a versatile rectangular form. At 32 inches wide and 8 feet long, it offers generous planting depth without overreaching; comfortable to tend from either side, at home along a fence line, a patio edge, or as one element in a larger garden layout. The same fire-charred, tung oil finished construction as the Daichi, in a form that fits more spaces and pairs naturally with multiples.

The Niwa Ko 小庭
Niwa Ko, "little garden", is the most accessible entry point into the Yakisugi Series without sacrificing a single element of the craft. At 24 inches wide and 8 feet in length, it is well-suited to tighter spaces, side yards, or as a starter bed for growers just beginning to build their outdoor space. The same SSB process, the same tung oil finish, the same longevity, in a form that fits where others won't.
